WHY WE'RE DOING WHAT We're doing
A nationwide problem in the pro-life movement is afoot that most pro-life people are unaware of: in pro-life controlled statehouses like our own, it is not pro-choicers who are keeping abortion legal. Pro-life legislators, lobbyists, and organization leaders are killing bills that simply amend the homicide code to include preborn children as fully human—bills that simply abolish abortion.
This happened in Iowa last year.
Why? What reason do these pro-life leaders cite for killing abortion abolition bills in a legislature where democrat pro-choicers have no power? At one time these pro-life leaders said Roe was the “law of the land”, but Roe is now dead. In Iowa, they said they were waiting on the Court’s decision on their Heartbeat Law before taking further action, but the Heartbeat Law has been allowed to go into effect.
What are they waiting for in 2025?
Iowa’s pro-life leaders ultimately give one reason: they do not believe mothers should be prosecuted for murdering their preborn children. Their concern makes sense: they do not want a young woman who was coerced to get charged as a first-degree murderer. Their solution? Grant all parents blanket immunity to murder their children. This would be like protecting people from being falsely accused of rape by making all rape legal. These pro-life leaders somehow forget that we have courts that assume innocence until proof of guilt. Courts look at all the evidence of a case and make sure the appropriate sentence is issued, giving only what someone deserves. (Yes, there are corrupt courts.) But corrupt courts could administer injustice anytime.
Should we legalize all crime then? No!
Given our culture is “not ready for” abolition (as we also hear from pro-life leaders), if a court were corrupt, it would more likely be on the side of leniency to the mother than severity. Will passing an abolition bill suddenly turn judges across America into monsters that go beyond the law and put young women in jail for life for being forced to abort? No. It’s an absurd fear. We must pass just laws. There must be Biblical justice.
What the average pro-life person doesn’t know is that the Pro-Life organizational establishment in this nation is in fact committed to never granting the preborn justice. We have proof: 76 major national and state pro-life organizations, including two in Iowa, co-signed a letter stating emphatically exactly what we described here.
Actions: What We’re Doing
We will target two legislatively significant districts in Iowa and seek to turn 10% of their populations into abolitionists via information and education this year.
Our primary vehicle for disseminating information in these districts is the petition. It is a tangible call to action that will grow our ability to communicate with the new base and further educate them about abolition. We will also utilize online ads, direct mail, emailed information, and other mediums to reach people with this message.
Once the petition is large enough, we will bring it to the legislature, showing our leaders that their constituents now believe they are not doing what is right. We hope that it will influence them to abolish abortion. If this hope is not realized, we will then activate the new base at the ballot box in 2026.
How You Can Help
– This work is currently being done by volunteers only, and we need more of them. There are a handful of specialized positions that need filled, such as social media, writers, videographers, and more. If you have a skill you think could contribute to this work, please contact us.
– We need churches and pastors to help get behind this message. Please talk to your pastor about having your church sign the petition, as well as send volunteers to help with the behind-the-scenes work.
– We plan to have regular outreaches that will help the above work in a variety of ways. We will go out in the culture and spread the Gospel. We will need as many foot soldiers for this work as we can get. You can contact us to stay in the loop.
